
Dennis Eugene Wilkins Sr. departed this earthly life on February 28, 2021. Dennis was born May 27, 1961, to Melvin and Beulah Wilkins of Portsmouth, VA. Dennis was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He bravely served in the United States Army as a combat engineer. Dennis was a dedicated and beloved employee of Hampton Roads Sanitation District until he retired after thirty years in 2017.
Dennis was a lifelong resident of the city of Portsmouth where he met and married Mary Elizabeth Taylor Wilkins (deceased). They had three sons: Dennis Eugene Wilkins Jr., Brandon Michael Wilkins, and Ryan Christopher Wilkins. Dennis’ hobbies included watching Sci-fi, and competing in many sports. He was a member of a bowling league and a tennis team, for which he received multiple awards. Dennis was a man with a brilliant sense of humor and a heart of gold. He was always eager to help those in need. His loving and caring nature allowed him to become a father figure to many. He had a great sense of humor, infamously giving everyone around him an unforgettable nickname such as Moochie, Moo, Vera, Homie T, Killer,
Monster, just to name a few. He was beloved by everyone.
Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Taylor Wilkins. He is survived by his parents, Melvin and Beulah Wilkins; sons, Dennis (Rie) Wilkins, Brandon (Shaudesa) Wilkins, Ryan (Lauren) Wilkins; grandchildren, Aden and Avery Wilkins; two brothers, Troy (Debbie) Wilkins and Jai Murray; two sisters, Angela (Tim) Felton and Vickie Wilkins (Robert McClenny); sister-in-law, Anne Verdine-Jones; brother-in-law, Kevin Barnes Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
