Note that all Vivariums can contain 12 active beasts simultaneously, bringing your total to 48.
Coastal Vivarium Upgrade
The first Vivarium upgrade will automatically be unlocked after you've collected ten beasts and started The Plight of the House-Elf side quest. At this point, you should've done The High Keep main quest, so you've likely collected the required amount of beasts by the time Deek's questline is available.
Swamp Vivarium Upgrade
After completing The Plight of the House-Elf and the Fire and Vice main quest, you'll get an Owl Post from Professor Weasley, who informs you that Deek can teach you how to breed beasts—this will unlock the Foal of Dead side quest.
Rescuing and breeding beasts go hand-in-hand, allowing you to keep younger beasts away from poachers. You'll need to rescue a male and a female Thestral and purchase a Breeding Pen Spellcraft from Tomes and Scrolls in Hogsmeade.
- The quest marker will take you to the eastern section of the North Ford Bog, the northernmost region in Hogwarts Legacy. Here you'll be able to find the two Thestrals required for the quest.
Return to Deek with the two Thestrals and the necessary spellcraft, and the Room of Requirement will conjure the Swamp Vivarium.
Grassland Vivarium Upgrade
Once the Thestral Offspring is born, speak to Deek again, and he'll tell you a story about the rarest beast of them all—the Phoenix. To unlock the Grassland Vivarium, you must complete the side quest Phoenix Rising and return the Phoenix to the Room of Requirement.
Completing the quest will unlock the final Vivarium Upgrade and automatically add the Phoenix to the Grassland Vivarium.
