The politician was raised on a cattle ranch before continuing his education at Brigham Young University where he earned a degree in international relations. Later, he obtained a master’s degree in political science from the same university.

Jeff Flake began his political career in 2000 when he was elected as a member of Congress to replace Matt Salmon, a Republican member of the House of Representatives, who left office on his promise.
During his campaign that same year, Flake promised to serve for three terms, but towards the end of his third term he revoked his promise and began planning his re-election the following year. Despite opposition from three mayors in his home district who did not want him re-elected, he emerged victorious because he had no strong Democratic opponent and ultimately won against the Libertarian candidate. . He served for three additional terms and his term ended in 2010.
In February 2011, the politician went public with his intention to run for the Senate and he eventually won the Republican Party primaries and was nominated to face Democratic Party candidate Richard Carmona.
